I believe you have to get the key special when you download the Microsoft Server Standard Evaluation and from there I think you can upgrade to the "real meal deal". The free ESXi hypervisor limits your core count to 8, which will in turn effectively limit the amount of memory you can use. I'd recommend virtualizing your 2k8 server, then take your current physical box and installing a hypervisor VMware ESXi to be specific. There aren't any workarounds for Standard to support more memory, short of hacking the kernel. ![]() I am using a windows server R2 standard key into the evaluation but it says the key is not suited for that copy of windows. I have windows server R2 standard evaluation installed.
